Last week our colleague Jacopo Cerri visited us to discuss mapping wind turbines and other energy infrastructures that threaten the conservation of multiple bird and bat species. During his visit, he gave a seminar about the topic, with a special focus on assessing the quality of existing maps about renewable energy infrastructures through satellite images, on challenges to the development of large-scale maps across Europe and on combining these with satellite telemetry and occurrence data to map potentially challenging areas for conservation.
He provided us with great insights from the results achieved so far within the LIFE SAFE FOR VULTURES project (LIFE19 NAT/IT/000732) and explored ways to expand research efforts in the field.
