To assess habitat preferences of brown bears we investigate habitat selection at daily beds, winter dens and other bear locations. Most of these bear places are obtained thanks to GPS telemetry. For daily beds, we describe habitat characteristics (e.g. canopy cover, visibility) and compare with those of random points. Random points are locations visited by bears but not chosen as a daily bed. To investigate habitat selection in general, we compare the habitat features (forest type, cover, food availability) of bear locations and random points, not used by bears but potentially available.
