We welcome Lucia Del Rio, who is doing an internship with us at the Institute of Nature Conservation (IOP PAN). Lucia is a PhD student at the Institute for Game and Wildlife Research (IREC) at the University of Castilla-La Mancha. In her PhD research, Lucia focuses on human- wildlife conflicts, specifically assessing the effectiveness of chemical aversive conditioning in reducing livestock losses to wolf predation.
During her internship, Lucia will work with a time series of bear damage data and assess if fluctuations in damage occurrence are linked to variations in the consumption of different foods. For instance, is the occurrence of damage higher in summers when the consumption of fleshy fruits is low?
Lucia will give a presentation of her PhD project soon in our seminar at the Institute of Nature Conservation.
