The IUCN SSC Bear Specialist Group’s Human-Bear Conflict Expert Team documents on “Approaches to Human-Bear Conflicts” and the “Principles of Human-Bear Conflict Reduction”.

Interaction between humans and bears is common for all bear species around the world. Often, these interactions result in negative outcomes for bears and humans. Experts call these situations human-bear conflicts. But, what is exactly a human-bear conflict? Also, it is possible to avoid these conflicts and if so, how? The Human-Bear Conflict expert Team from the Bear Specialist Group have just released two documents giving a comprehensive definition of what these conflicts are and what are the most common approaches to manage them. The Species Survival Commission of the IUCN endorses these documents that are now available here
