Proposed changes in methods for brown bear monitoring available

The Institute of Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences has proposed to introduce changes in the methods for brown bear monitoring. The monitoring of species and natural habitats in Poland is conducted within the frames of National Environmental Monitoring. Our proposal is now available on the website of the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection  (http://siedliska.gios.gov.pl/images/pliki_pdf/publikacje/pojedyncze_metodyki_dla_gat_zwierzat/niedzwiedz_brunatny_modyfikacja_metodyki.pdf).

We hope that the next monitoring of the species will be conducted accordingly. This means e.g. monitoring on extended units, more appropriate for a reliable assessment of the conservation status of bear habitat and population, population size assessment based on molecular methods, and valorization of the “population size” parameter for the entire area of the brown bear distribution in Poland.
