Student/PhD student position in the WildINTEL project

We invite applications for a student/PhD student position within the National Science Centre (NCN) scholarship framework, as part of the project WildINTEL – “Building a scalable WILDlife monitoring system by integrating remote camera sampling and artificial INTELligence with Essential Biodiversity Variables” (2023/05/Y/NZ8/00104).

This 3-year project, which began in February 2024, brings together leading research teams from Poland, Spain, Norway, and Germany. It is funded through the BiodivMon joint call by BiodivERsA+. The position is based at the Institute of Nature Conservation, Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków.

The research focuses on mammal community dynamics using camera trap data processed with AI tools and enriched by citizen science. The successful candidate will contribute to several key project activities, including:

  • Collecting, managing, and quality-checking image datasets and metadata
  • Assisting in curating expert-classified images for AI model training
  • Supporting citizen science engagement and public outreach
  • Helping maintain the project website and social media presence
  • Contributing to the development of protocols for standardised image data handling
  • Participating in spatial and temporal analyses of mammal distributions and biodiversity indicators

We welcome applications from motivated students with interests in ecology, artificial intelligence, biodiversity monitoring, and citizen science.
